Space Bedroom Ideas for Adults and Teens

Space bedroom ideas: Astronaut in the Clouds framed poster by Kiyo Arts

A space themed bedroom doesn't have to mean glow-in-the-dark stickers and rocket bedding. For adults and teens, the best space bedrooms feel like the night sky: deep, calm and a little dramatic. Here are space bedroom ideas that look grown up, with separate tips for adults and for teens.

1. Start with a night-sky colour scheme

Navy, midnight blue, charcoal or deep purple on one wall, or in the bedding, sets the scene. Add silver, white or soft gold as accents, like stars and moonlight. If you can't paint, dark bedding and curtains do much of the same work.

2. One large piece of space art

A big canvas or framed poster above the bed is the centre of a space bedroom. Choose the mood: a quiet nebula or starfield for a restful room, or an astronaut or cosmic figure for more character. Our space art guide covers the different kinds.

3. A starry ceiling

A star projector, a few strands of tiny warm lights or a celestial tapestry on the ceiling bring the sky indoors. Keep fabric well away from light fittings. Our guide explains how to hang a tapestry on the ceiling.

4. Moon and planet lamps

A moon lamp on the bedside table gives soft, warm light and is a subtle space detail. See the moon in art for why the moon is such a lasting subject.

5. Celestial bedding, kept simple

Plain dark bedding with one starry or celestial cushion looks more grown up than a full printed set.

6. A space desk corner

A galaxy or astronaut desk mat, a small planet-shaped lamp and one framed piece make a desk feel part of the theme.

7. Science on the shelf

A telescope by the window, a globe of the Moon or Mars, or a few astronomy books add a real-world, curious side to the room.

8. A celestial tapestry wall

If you rent or have a big wall to fill, a night-sky tapestry behind the bed covers it lightly. Our post on celestial tapestries for the bedroom has ideas.

9. Metallic accents

Silver picture frames, a chrome lamp or brushed-metal hardware read as spacecraft details without being literal.

10. Soft, cool lighting

A blue or purple LED strip behind the headboard on a dim setting gives the room a night-sky glow. Switch to warm light before bed.

Pick a space sub-theme

  • Deep space: black, navy, galaxies and nebulae. Calm and dramatic.
  • Astronaut: white, silver and blue, with an astronaut piece as the focus.
  • Retro space: 1970s and 80s colours, rockets and neon planets.
  • Celestial: moons, stars and soft gold, more mystical than scientific.

Space bedroom ideas for adults: keep it subtle

  • One statement piece of space art, the rest plain.
  • Dark, calm colours; avoid bright primary rockets and planets.
  • Warm, low light in the evening.
  • Real materials: linen, wood, metal.
  • A telescope or a few astronomy books rather than themed accessories.

Space bedroom ideas for teens: more personality

  • Bolder space art: astronauts, glowing nebulae, cosmic animals.
  • Coloured LED lighting in purple or blue.
  • A space desk mat for gaming or homework.
  • Space pins and keychains on a bag or board.
  • Art that can grow with them. See teen bedroom wall art that survives changing tastes.

Small space bedroom ideas

In a small room, darker walls can actually make the space feel deeper, like a night sky. Use one large piece rather than several small ones, keep surfaces clear, and use the ceiling for the starry effect so the walls stay calm.
